BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

 

 

 

Dr. Ruth G. King is an educational psychologist who has spent much of her life teaching and consulting. She has provided services to various businesses, corporate firms, military and educational institutions, and private agencies in the areas of leadership, women's issues and cultural diversity.

She is presently a Senior Associate for Nichols and Associates, Inc. of Washington, D.C., an applied behavioral science firm. Dr. King has served as an Associate Professor of Psychology at Federal City College and Howard University. During her tenure as Vice President of the National Training Institute for Community Economic Development, Dr. King provided training and consultation to Boards of Directors and the staffs of economic corporations across the country. As a free lance consultant she provided services for a variety of organizations, including Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, the Executive Leadership Training Institute of Virginia, the Race Relations Institute at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, and the Intercultural Family Center in Philadelphia. She spent time as a counselor for the Job Corps in Pennsylvania, and as a family counselor for Montgomery County in Maryland.


Dr. King grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Moorestown High School. She earned her BS degree in Health and Physical Education at the College of New Jersey, and her Masters and Doctoral degrees at Temple University in Philadelphia. She has numerous publications including extensive work on the self-concept of black youth and women of color. She has assisted with several video projects and produced a tape on "Testing Bias in Jobs and Schools: Its Effect on Minority Americans", under the auspices of the Congressional Black Caucus Issues Forum. Dr. King is also a martial artist and has won gold, silver and bronze medals in Tai Chi Chuan.

She served as Editor for newsletters for several professional organizations, and even produced her own newsletter called "Loving Relationships". Most of her former writing has taken the form of reports and proposals. Recently she turned her attention to fiction writing and a bit of poetry. "The Only One" is her first novel in which she shares some personal experiences as well as incidents presented to her by other women and minorities who function as "the only one" in the world of work.
